Oral interaction with Genially

This activity fosters oral interaction among the students. These are the steps to be developed:

  1. Students are grouped.
  2. The students look for information about the current billboard and the prices of the cinema's bar.
  3. The students plan the organisation of that information on Genially.
  4. The teacher provides the students guidance to direct the oral interaction, proposing topics to talk about (prices, menu, film's synopsis, etc.).
  5. The teacher helps to solve any technical problem about Genially.
  6. The students direct the discussion and agree with the whole class on:
    • Film selected.
    • Menu selected.
    • Meeting point.
    • Time to meet.
The students grouping and timing is decided by the teacher, depending on the students' skills and trying to make heterogeneous groups.

Below can be seen the final product from the students:

This activity allowed the students to develop several key competences and skills, as they learn to learn autonomously, use the key competences, use the foreign language, cope with everyday difficulties, manage a discussion and express their preferences, justifying their opinion and try to convince others. They develop artistic and cultural skills too. One alternative to improve this activity could be assign the design of this Genially at home, to flip the classroom and foster communication at the classroom more deeptly.

  1. HI! I liked your blog and your entry about Genially has been interesting! From my point of view - and I do not consider myself the best blogger, I would like to see more images in your entries, so I think the blog would be more appealing with photos.

  2. Hi Julio!

I really enjoy this task with Genially. I love this resource but I had never thought about designing an activity based on the cinema. It’s true that we work on this topic all years and that students are normally quite interested in it. In this way, they work with authentic materials and they put into practice all language skills. Furthermore, we could even say it is an integrated task in which subjects such as Maths are also included when talking about prices. As I have just said, this meaningful and authentic task will undoubtedly motivate students to work since it is something completely related to their lives.

As a way to improve this activity, we could also ask them to write short film reviews and in this way they would practice this typical writing structure.

    Best regards,
    Rosa.
